The Philadelphia-Wilmington metropolitan area exported $29.1 billion in 2024, demonstrating the regional economy's global reach.

State Audit Finds Oversight Gaps in Port of Wilmington Expansion — Work Continues

A December 2025 performance audit of the Diamond State Port Corporation found ongoing oversight challenges between DSPC and operator Enstructure. Despite procedural issues, the port expansion project continues — with Enstructure and the state advancing plans for the new Edgemoor container terminal facility.

Ningbo Delegation Visits Wilmington to Explore Education Exchange

A delegation from Ningbo, China — including the Division Chief of Vocational Education for the Ningbo Municipal Education Bureau — visited Wilmington to explore educational exchange opportunities. Mayor Carney highlighted education as a priority area for the 36-year-old Wilmington-Ningbo Friendship City relationship.

Marcus Henry Takes Office as New Castle County Executive

Marcus Henry, former NCC Director of Economic Development from 2011 to 2021, was sworn in as County Executive in January 2025. Henry brings direct experience with the county's international economic development portfolio — including the NCC-Qiqihar sister city framework established during his tenure under County Executive Thomas Gordon.

$50 Million Maurice Pritchett Academy Opens in Wilmington

A new $50 million school bearing the name of legendary Bancroft School principal Maurice Pritchett Sr. opened in Wilmington with Governor Carney and Senator Coons in attendance. The Pritchett family's legacy in Delaware education continues through the Maurice Pritchett Education Foundation, led by Juanita Pritchett.
